A COLORADO SPRINGS CHRISTMAS
Looking to experience a Colorado Springs Christmas this year? December may be the busiest month for nearly every person, but it is definitely the most fun! With parties to attend, shopping to do, and decorations to put up, sometimes it is good to get away with the family and simply enjoy each other. There are activities abound that are suitable for a lovely date night out or fun with the family.
I took on the task of wading through endless activities for the month of December to highlight what I suggest are the top ten Christmas activities for the Colorado Springs area. I’d love to hear from you if your family gives any of these events a go. Let me know what you think!
#1 SKATE IN THE PARK, Downtown Colorado Springs, Starting November 10 (continues through January 31)
Some of the best shopping around is in Downtown Colorado Springs. Plan a day out with your family to shop, eat at one of the many local restaurants, grab hot cocoa at the Storybook Coffee Co., and ice skate among the Christmas lights. A perfect way to make lasting memories with those you love. You’ll find the ice-skating rink in Acacia Park off of Tejon Street and Platte Ave. Be sure to check out the special events they have planned like skating with the hockey teams from Colorado College and the United States Air Force Academy. #2 HOLIDAY LIGHTS TOUR: Colorado Springs, Various Dates
Premium Rides limo company is offering holiday lights tours this season. You can book one of their limos and tour holiday lights around town in luxury and style for 2 hours. This would be a great idea for families or a fun holiday celebration with friends. Prices vary depending on the size of vehicle and passenger capacity. Details here.

#3 SANTA EXPRESS TRAIN, Royal Gorge, Various Dates in November and December
Start a wonderful holiday tradition with the little ones in your family this year by booking a 1.5 hour trip on the Santa Express Train. Food, cookies, hot cocoa and Christmas music are all part of the fun as the train travels to the North Pole for a visit from Santa and his elves. 2023 welcomes a brand new holiday locomotive decorated with festive snowflakes, pine trees, and Santa’s reindeer. Night trips will enjoy a holiday light show on their return trip from the North Pole. Food and libations from the fully stocked bar are available at additional cost. #4 THE NUTCRACKER, Pikes Peak Center, November 24-26, 2023
The Christmas season is not complete without Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker! Delight your children, or your inner child, with this traditional Christmas ballet. Every year the Oklahoma City Ballet visits to dazzle us with this Thanksgiving tradition. You can dress up or go casual. #5 PALMER LAKE STAR LIGHTING, Palmer Lake, November 25, 2023
Festivities begin at 4:00m with pictures with Santa, hayrides, carolers, the annual chili supper and more. This year you can enter a raffle to be the lucky person to light the Palmer Lake Star! More info here.
#6 CHRISTMAS AT GLEN EYRIE, Various dates in December
Celebrate the Christmas of your dreams at one of the several events hosted at the magnificent Glen Eyrie Castle. If Old English is your cup of tea, you will be delighted to participate in any one of these events:
- Madrigal Banquet: Set in the grandeur of The Great Hall of The Castle, the 16th century-style banquet is sure to fill you with awe this Christmas season. #7 NATURE WALKS WITH SANTA, Dates TBA in 2023
Take a hike with Saint Nick and enjoy an interactive reading of “Twas the Night before Christmas” and Fountain Creek Nature Center. Make paper snowflakes and enjoy live music after the hike. Another beloved event is Bear Creek by Candlelight. On December 1, you can stroll through Bear Creek Park while it’s lit up and festive for the season. Click here for more information.
Christmas isn’t Christmas in Colorado Springs without a trip to the Broadmoor Hotel! They have several events and packages to delight your family over the holidays. Choose from several dates for a taste of wassail and holiday music. Afterwards, take a romantic walk around the luxuriously decorated hotel, sit and be mesmerized by the thousands of holiday lights, and explore their famous gingerbread houses. #9 CHRISTMAS CONCERT, Village 7 Presbyterian Church, December 2 & 3, 2023
This free concert is open to the public and will celebrate the hope of the season with beloved Christmas music featuring their orchestra, choirs, the Air Force Academy Band, and dancers from Turning Pointe Dance Studio. Don’t miss this unique and eclectic Christmas presentation that will include classic and modern selections along with original Village 7 songs and arrangements. The Village 7 choir and creative team never disappoint-this is one of the top performances in the area. Can’t make it to the concert? Village 7 will livestream Saturday’s concert and post a recording on their website on Sunday. Childcare will be provided for Saturday’s concert. More information here.
#10 CHRISTMAS AT THE RANCH, Flying W Ranch, December 8-23, 2022
Enjoy a festive evening at the beautiful, historic Flying W Ranch decorated for the holidays. The Cowboy Christmas Jubilee includes a delicious dinner and live musical show by the Flying W Wranglers. Details and tickets here.

Fill up your calendar with memories and laughter. Satisfy the child inside as well as indulge your tastes with the finer things.
