Home Selling: Clean House

Your home is required to be in broom clean condition during the final walkthrough. It is standard practice for the seller to clean the home after they have moved everything out.

It needs to be mentioned that there is no paragraph in the Contract to Buy and Sell that stipulates how clean a property should be. However, if there is trash in the home, the buyer can call on section 17 “Possession” stating the seller is in default for not delivering possession according to the agreement. In short, there is a difference between a house being dirty and having trash in the house or especially having damaged the home with any trash left at home.

Alternatively, you can hire a cleaning person to do the final cleaning. This might be an ideal option to have one less task on your to do list. Please let us know if you would like recommendations for a cleaning person, or if you would like us to schedule our cleaning person for you.
